March Food Blog:

In the Thali kitchens we always try to change our menu to include as many fresh, seasonally inspired recipes as possible, and this year we’re going to be offering even more choice, with our new seasonal specials boards.

We’ll be be cooking up some exciting regional Indian dishes to go on our specials board alongside our famous Thalis. These special dishes will focus on including the freshest local produce - what’s in season, local and organic where possible, and will be inspired by the authentic recipes of Indian elders, passed down from generation to generation.

Specials this month will include Organic Mushroom Palak Locally grown Portobello mushrooms cooked with fresh spinach. Masala Fish Fry chunky British caught sustainable Coley, a meaty and tasty fish marinaded in delicious tandoori spices and yoghurt batter and fried until crisp. Served with seasonal salad and coconut rice. And Kadu-ki Subji, A tasty Organic pumpkin curry, cooked with coconut milk, cayenne pepper and green mango. We hope that you’ll love the delicious flavours coming from local producers.

This month in the Thali Kitchens we’re cooking up a storm of hearty, warming fare to help beat those late winter blues and herald in Spring...Come on spring you can do it!

This months changing Thali menu is bursting with flavour, Aloo Methi, Baby potatoes cooked with organic spinach and methi leaves. A hearty and delicious Blackeye Bean and Squash Thoran – Tasty blackeye beans and fresh, yellow butternut squash fried with savoury South Indian herbs and spices and grated coconut.

Our Crunchy Kerelan Salad will include grated fresh celeriac and fennel, radish and organic seeds. Thali Homemade Chutneys have been improved, they’re now even more packed with fresh ingredients – the perfect match for a pile of our crispy poppadoms.

Don’t forget that our new Moghul Chicken Thali has now taken flight in our Totterdown and Clifton restaurants. The centerpiece being a big bowl of Chicken curry, made with the best Free range chicken from local Gloucester farms, it’s a deliciously simple and rustic home-cooked recipe, which has been handed down from our chef Prasads family.

Clifton Thali, the newest addition to the Thali family, is now open through the day Tuesday to Sunday, with the same popular lunch menu that you’ll find in our Easton branch. Meals include huge Masala Dosa pancakes, Goan Fish Curry, Mumbai Fishcakes, Goan coconut pancakes, plus loads of specials and cakes. All daytime staff are now Barista Trained and we make top quality organic coffee and tea all day long. We’re family friendly and hope our restaurants are the perfect place to get comfortable and relax, so come and take a seat!
